EPHESUS FROM ISTANBUL
If you are in Istanbul and like to visit Ephesus:
There are numerous flights to Izmir from Istanbul during the day and very reasonably priced. Izmir has the nearest airport to Ephesus and in 1 hour planes can arrive there from Istanbul. Izmir airport doesn’t have much of a public transport option but some airlines provide free shuttle between Izmir airport and Selcuk. You can meet with your guide to go to Ephesus in Izmir Airport or in Selcuk which costs less. Private Ephesus Tours arranges a pickup service from both places for Ephesus tours. If you like to visit Ephesus by yourself from Selcuk you can catch a taxi to go to Ephesus or you can walk from town centre to Ephesus in 30 minutes.
There are no trains between Istanbul and Selcuk but there are intercity buses which are quite comfortable and frequent but it takes almost 10 hours. It is also possible to take a ferry from Istanbul to Bandirma, transfer to the train till Izmir and then take another train to Selcuk but both ways will be a very long and also exhausting day.
If you are TRAVELING BY CRUISE:
If your cruise ship docks in Kusadasi harbor or Izmir harbor you can easily visit Ephesus. It takes 20 minutes driving to Ephesus from Kusadasi port; 1 hour 15 minutes from Izmir port. Private Ephesus Tours can welcome you in both harbors to go the Ephesus but if you like to go by yourself you can catch a taxi from both ports but before you jump into one of the taxis you should agree on a price. Public transportation can take long time and can be confusing. Cruisers have limited time in ports so instead of spending all your day with waiting minibuses to arrive there, it’s better to arrange a private tour to Ephesus from local travel agencies before you come, latest one day ago.

TURKISH KEBAB

Who has never heard of shish kebab? In Turkish, shish kebab, literally means “gobbets of meat roasted on a spit or skewers.” Probably the most famous preparation for grilled lamb, there seems to be countless recipes. It is said that shish kebab was born over the open field fires of the soldiers of the Turkic tribes that first invaded Anatolia, who used their swords to grill meat, as they pushed west from their homelands in Central Asia. Given the obvious simplicity of spit-roasting meat over a fire, I suspect its genesis is earlier. There is iconographical evidence of Byzantine Greeks cooking shish kebabs. But surely the descriptions of skewering strips of meat for broiling in Homer’s  Odyssey  must count for an early shish kebab.     In the Arab world, the same preparation is called  shish kabab  or  lahm mishwy  (grilled meat). The true shish kebabs are pieces of marinated lamb affixed to flat or four-sided bladed metal skewer...

Priene never held a great deal of political importance due to the city's size, as it is believed around 4 to 5 thousand inhabitants occupied the region. The city was arranged into four districts, firstly the political district which consisted of the  bouleuterion  and the  prytaneion , the cultural district containing the  theatre , the commercial where the  agora  was located and finally the religious district which contained sanctuaries dedicated to  Zeus  and  Demeter  and most importantly the Temple of Athena.
